Six Free Winter Family Events

Feast your eyes on the best part of the holiday season: all of the twinkling holiday lights! This year’s theme is Light Up the Holidays. Any home within Henderson city limits is eligible to contend, so get the whole family out working on this fun project! There are several categories you can find here. Indulge your inner Griswold, print an application here, and start decorating! Judging will take place on December 7.

Be an active community member and give back this holiday season by volunteering for a trail maintenance team for the Anthem and Mission Hills area. Avoid the Black Friday shopping madness with an early morning hike instead! Get a peek at the newly signed primitive route up the north ridge of Black Mountain with the Veterans Conservation Corps. For the 14th year, Henderson welcomes the best and fastest desert off-road racers for their annual duel in the desert! This exhilarating event marks the final race in the Best in the Desert series. Before the race, spectators can meet the drivers, get autographs, and even take “up close” pictures with the race vehicles. Spectator admission is free, so be sure to bring the whole family to witness this extreme sport showdown! Get more information here.

The winter season is finally upon us! Celebrate with an afternoon of games, a bounce house, treats, and an underwater candy cane hunt. There will even be a station where you can write a letter to Santa! Admission is $5; however it’s free when you bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to the toy drive. Henderson’s biggest winter celebration is back this year with more holiday-packed fun than ever before! The festivities include a tree-lighting ceremony, gingerbread house displays, roaming performers, vendors, and Mr. Claus himself is scheduled to drop in early for a visit. Bring your family and friends to the Saturday evening light parade at 5 p.m.! Admission is complimentary.

New Year’s Eve Midnight Hike

Witness the New Year festivities and numerous firework shows from the top of a mountain! A New Year’s Eve midnight hike is the best way to kick-start 2016 in a healthy and active way. Kids and teens 5-17 years old must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Register for this unique NYE event here!
