9 Out-of-the-Box Vegas Mother’s Day Ideas

Inspirada resident Scott Dysinger cooks up spicy Asian chicken thighs with his mom.

Sunday, May 13 is Mother’s Day. Before you divert to your yearly plan of breakfast in bed, flowers, and a thoughtful card, think otherwise. The Vegas Valley is full of unique experiences to celebrate mom. And, we think mom deserves something a little more special. We’ve done the hard part and gathered 9 Mother’s Day ideas near your Vegas home. Pick one or more and prepare for mom to be impressed!

No Talk-y Before Coffee
Wake mom up to her favorite item from Jolly Beans Café to start her day off right.

Rethink the Flowers
Flowers are always nice to receive, but amp up the gift and let mom pick her flowers and arrange them to fit her aesthetics. Not only will you have a leg up for next year — don’t forget to take note of the flowers she chooses — but she’ll enjoy flexing her creative muscles and selecting her favorite flowers and tones to compliment her Vegas home. Go to a flower shop or even a Trader Joes, as they often have flower options.

Or, take it up a notch.

Cork and Thorn is a local wine bar that also offers floral workshops. Sign mom up for a class.

Have I Died and Gone to Europe?
Make mom feel like she’s floating — because she is — as she sits in one of the Venetian’s gondolas and enjoys the views. Finish the ride off with a dessert of her choosing from the Bouchon Bakery pastry case.

Take Her to an Art Festival
Does mom enjoy art and supporting local? The City of Henderson is hosting their annual Art Festival of Henderson over Mother’s Day weekend. This kid-friendly event includes a children’s interactive area, chalk art designs, food, live entertainment and demonstrations, and local art to shop. Plus, the event is free-to-attend.

The Power of Salt
Treat mom to a session at The Salt Room in Henderson. This “therapeutic Himalayan salt cave” offers spa services like facials, yoga classes, and even the option to simply sit in the room during an uninterrupted period — a rarity in itself for mom. Salt may offer allergy benefits and relief for respiratory and skin conditions — and the hue of the rose gold throughout is enchanting.

Sip on Something Classy
Unfortunately, moms are a group of people with the greatest need for a cocktail but hardly ever have an opportunity to enjoy one. For Mother’s Day, make sure you hire a babysitter — if needed — and take mom to the Chandelier Lounge at the Cosmopolitan. She’ll enjoy the opportunity to dress up, the classy atmosphere, and, of course, the opportunity to sip on a cocktail.

The Beauty of the Desert
Take the whole family along for a walk through the Botanical Cactus Garden at Ethel M. Chocolates. And, since you’re there, go ahead and treat mom to some chocolate.

A Spot of Tea?
The Vegas skyline, bite-sized delicacies, and the excuse to talk in a British accent — yep, we’re talking about afternoon tea at the Tea Lounge. A special menu for Mother’s Day will include children’s options. Mom can sip on tea-infused cocktails, a large selection of hot and cold teas, and enjoy bite-sized nibbles like macaroons and tea sandwiches. Reservations are highly recommended.

Backyard Oasis
Of course, you can also create a space just for her that she can enjoy year-round in the backyard. Decorate the space with her favorite colors and plants, freshen up the patio furniture, and set a new book — with a bow of course — by her favorite author and a sun hat for her to enjoy. Don’t forget to include little ones to serve her iced refreshments.

Save the breakfast in bed, flowers, and a card as a surprise thank you for mom another day a year. Take the opportunity to thank mom with a unique experience this Mother’s Day near your Vegas home. Finish the day off by and making dinner together — like Inspirada resident Scott Dysinger does in the video on the top of the page — and watching the sunset together at the Inspirada Overlook.
