If Inspirada students seem to be more engrossed in their reading lately, it’s because they have more motivation. Inspirada is a master-planned community near Henderson schools, like Wallin Elementary. At The Shirley and Bill Wallin Elementary School, students are participating in “Reading Through the Genres, “ which challenges them to read books from six different genres over the course of 20 weeks.
The optional program began before the holidays and continues until April 25, 2014.
Students are encouraged to read books at their Accelerated Reader (AR) reading level and measure their knowledge on comprehension AR tests. Students who participate in this incentive program are invited to attend a special awards dinner in May with a guest.
“Reading Through the Genres” is a program by the Wallin Reading Committee, which is dedicated to motivating children to want to read and to enjoy reading.
Inspirada’s elementary school kids are currently zoned for Wallin Elementary School. A school that thrives on student-teacher-parent collaboration, Wallin Elementary prides itself on being an active Empowerment School, where leadership and staff have greater autonomy and accountability to assign resources that they feel best benefit the students. An integrated use of technology, an emphasis on applied math and science, as well as longer instruction time and a weekly visual and performing arts curriculum, are only a few of the strategies being implemented at this celebrated elementary school.
