The Art Festival of Henderson continues its tradition as the event to attend during Mother’s Day weekend. Thousands meander through the Water Street District fest, which showcases some of the region’s top artisans, a chalk art competition, live entertainment and a children’s interactive arts area. Admission is free, so Inspirada children can treat their moms to a great day out in the active Henderson community.
New to this year’s festival, the city has added experiences for art enthusiasts. Between 10 a.m.-3 p.m. each day, Artscape Avenue will spotlight a variety of artists demonstrating their craft, including glass blowing, pottery throwing, wool spinning and weaving, and Henna art. The Art Festival will also invite festival-goers to group painting sessions, where artists teach students of all skill levels how to create their own masterpieces.
In addition to fine artists, the Art Festival will have “amateur” artists compete in a chalk art contest. Squares in three different sizes are available, and there is no cost to participate. Cash prizes, courtesy of several Henderson community partners, will be awarded in student and adult categories. Cheer mom on if she’s an artist at heart or create your own work of art and dedicate it to her.
