Our Inspirada residents are active in more ways than one. You can often find your neighbors enjoying the 35-miles of trails that weave through Inspirada or taking in the natural beauty in areas like the Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area. When they’re not trekking the outdoors, you can find the active Henderson community volunteering to help those in need. If you want to lend a hand, but don’t know where to start, we have created a list of nearby volunteer opportunities that cover a variety of interests.
Nature Lovers
Do you have a passion for nature? Do you often spend your weekends hiking? We recommend helping Friends of Sloan Canyon. Opportunities include serving as a trail monitor by hiking trails and reporting observations on current trail conditions.
Friends of the Four-Legged
For those that hold a special place in their heart for the furry, there are plenty of opportunities to help. Many organizations are in need of foster homes for pets awaiting adoption, including Anchors Up Rescue Group. You can also help with pet adoptions at Heaven Can Wait Animal Society, or donate items —towels, hand towels, newspaper, dry dog and cat food, bowls, paper towels, and cat litter (no clumping) — to the Henderson Animal Care and Control Facility.
The Young at Heart
Children are the future and there are many ways to positively impact the lives of our youngest residents. Work with homeless youth through Nevada Partnership for Homelessness Youth (NPHY), make a child’s day by decorating lunch bags and writing cards for children at The Ronald McDonald House®, or help St. Jude’s Ranch with housekeeping tasks like changing air filters.
Group Opportunities
Gather your friends or family and volunteer together. Spend a few hours organizing donated books at one of Spread the Word’s weekly book preparation events — aimed to improve literacy by providing books to children and schools in low-income areas — or help prevent diseases in improvised areas by creating hygiene packs at Clean the World.
Other Ways to Help
Homebodies rejoice, there’s a way to make a difference in the comfort of your home. You can become a crisis counselor for Crisis Text Line, or help the HIV/AIDS community from feeling ostracized and lonely through I’m Positive, Inc.
Serve a meal or impart a skill at Las Vegas Rescue Mission, run errands and transport the elderly for Dignity Health, or help the City of Henderson with various events and tasks.
These are just a few ways to start making a positive impact in your community. Regardless of your interests and skills, there’s a volunteer opportunity available. Join our active Henderson community by making a difference and serving in your free time. After all, the best parts of our neighborhood and city are outcomes from the hard work of our residents. We would love to see how you give back, share your volunteering photos using #MyInspirada.
