When Inspirada was forced to cancel community events due to concerns over the coronavirus, the idea for the “Light Up the Night” initiative was created. Residents of Inspirada are encouraged to decorate their homes during the month of April with holiday lights in the hopes of spreading a little sparkle to the community during these uncertain times.
“It has always been our mission to generate a strong sense of community among our residents through our robust programming and lifestyle events, so it was disheartening to have to cancel some of those events,” said Megan Conklin, lifestyle director, Inspirada Community Association. “We needed to find a way to uplift everyone’s spirits and were inspired by the national trend of putting up holiday lights.”
How does “Light Up the Night” work, exactly? Once your home is decorated, simply submit your address and a photo of your decorated house. Each homeowner that sends in a photo of their spirit display will be entered to win a $100 Visa Gift Card. Additionally, we’ll publish a list of these homes so that you and your family can see the displays in person, or they can be viewed on Inspirada’s Facebook page.
“I wake up to messages every morning of more homes donned in holiday décor and notes of appreciation from residents,” says Conklin. “It makes me so proud to work for a community that demonstrates strength, kindness, and positivity when we need it most. We truly are “Nevada Strong.’”
This isn’t the only way Inspirada is helping residents seek joy, though! While the annual Inspirada Spring Festival had been canceled, the ICA carried on the tradition of the flower planting project with a “doorknob delivery” that included all the materials needed to plant a pot of flowers, including seeds, a cultivator, and a small garden stake.
Once flowers began to bloom, residents were encouraged to post their blooms on social media! And the best part about this doorknob delivery initiative? The seed blend will attract hummingbirds that residents can enjoy from the comfort of their Inspirada home!
