If you’ve taken a stroll through one of our four gorgeous parks, then you have seen the host of amenities including volleyball, basketball and tennis courts, as well as dog parks, splash pads and a whole lot more! Our sprawling 35 acres of parks are the perfect setting for community activities and kids sports, which is why we are happy to welcome a brand new children’s recreational soccer league to our community.
Durango Soccer League is a parent-run, non-profit organization for boys and girls ages 3 to 10, and their first season will be held right here at Capriola and Aventura Parks! Last Saturday, September 26, over 150 kids from the new Durango Soccer League played their first week of games at our own Capriola Park. An opening ceremony was held at 8 a.m. with a continental breakfast provided by the Inspirada community, followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony and symbolic first kick-off goal. Each team and its coaches were introduced as the crowd cheered them on, and games were underway by 9 a.m. By the day’s end, all the sweaty players went home with a smile!
Oscar Cisneros—soccer enthusiast, Durango Soccer League President, and proud parent himself— thanked the Nevada Sports Academy and Inspirada community for their support in making this dream come true.
“We are very grateful for all the support they have given us in our beginnings and we hope to go hand-in-hand with each other to help achieve common goals, such as a more united community that has its parks full of children playing sports,” he said. “We are aiming to have more healthy and happy children that will be growing up with great values.”
Free clinics were offered over the summer giving the kids a feel for the game and teach them the fundamentals of soccer. Now that the season is in full swing, they have a weekly practice at Aventura Park to prepare them for Saturday games. Saturdays at Inspirada will be full of soccer, laughter and fun!
If you missed the fall deadline, Durango Soccer League is working on organizing the winter season, which will begin around the end of January 2016. Stay tuned for dates you can register. And if you want to get involved now, Durango Soccer League relies heavily on the support of parents. Even if you have no prior soccer experience, there’s an opportunity for everyone to participate.
