Enter Rockin’ Art of Sloan Canyon!

Residents of Southern Nevada, we have an exciting opportunity for you to showcase your artwork and explore one of Nevada’s hidden gems. Inspirada along with Friends of Sloan Canyon and the City of Henderson invite you to participate in Rockin’ Art of Sloan Canyon! Artists and nature lovers of all ages are invited to enter the art content to win the opportunity to have your art displayed and receive up to $250!

Inspirada is the gateway to Sloan Canyon, a beautiful desert landmark and a site of thousands of Native American rock designs. We are asking local artists to submit either artwork or photography inspired by Sloan Canyon, the wildlife for consideration. The contest is split into the following categories:

  1. Artwork: Ages 5-11
  2. Artwork: Ages 12-14
  3. Photography: Ages 15-19
  4. Photography: All Southern Nevada residents

All submissions should take inspiration from Sloan Canyon in some way. Art can portray scenery, events, landmarks, people, and much more, and photographs should be taken in the Sloan Canyon area.

To submit your piece, visit http://inspirada.com/rockinart, where you can find and download the official rules and parental permission forms. We will post the picture to our Facebook page, facebook.com/InspiradaNV, where your friends and family can vote for you. The photos with the highest number of likes will be named the winners!

Prizes for the winners range from $25 gift cards to a $250 voucher to David Clawson, a fine dining restaurant named one of The Best of Las Vegas in 2015. The winning artwork will also be displayed at Stroll n’ Roll event— a fun, family-friendly festival held in Henderson on November 14th at Aventura Park.

Make sure you only digitally submit your art (no physical copies will be accepted) and attach pictures in JPG or PNG format. For children 13 and under, the photo must be sent from a parent or guardian’s email address. The voting will take place from September 14 to October 28, so the sooner you send in your art the better! This is a great opportunity for budding artists and photographers, and it benefits an amazing local cause.

Find out more about Sloan Canyon by visiting Friends of Sloan Canyon, a non-profit dedicated to preserving this natural wonder and educating the community with fun, kid-friendly programs. You can also check out our blog for hiking information.

If your little ones want to participate but don’t know what to get started on, we have a couple of ideas:

  1. Mosaics made of paper of the flora/fauna
  2. Watercolor pictures of the mountains
  3. Crayon and/or marker pictures of reptiles and critters
  4. Dioramas of the desert landscape
  5. Petroglyphs painted onto river bed rocks

Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area is home to big horn sheep, the endangered desert tortoise, lizards, Kit Fox, mountain lions, kangaroo rats, quail, coyotes, rattlesnakes, and more! Birds in the area include warblers, swallows, flycatchers, phoebes, and red-tail hawks. Desert plant life is also diverse with abundance of cacti, including cholla.

Help celebrate our beautiful home by participating in this fun contest while showing off your artistic talents!
