In between bouts of watching royal wedding coverage on Saturday, May 19, you can celebrate the momentous occasion with a free-to-attend opera performance of Mozart’s “The Prince and the Magic Flute” by Sin City Opera at Solista Park Pavilion. The event is the first occurrence of a new event series open to the Henderson community: Inspirada’s Opera in the Park. The May 19 event will run from 1:30–5 p.m., with two matinee performances at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
The opera performance will be geared towards children, but suitable for all ages. Follow along as Prince Tamino undergoes a series of tests — with the help of his endearing sidekick, Papageno — for Princess Pamina’s hand in marriage.
The event is open to the public. Some chairs will be provided, but guests can also bring a blanket or chairs to make sure they have a seat on the lawn. Guests, especially youth, are welcomed to dress the part of royalty.
Snap a photo with visiting princes and princess: Cinderella, Prince Charming, Belle, and Prince Adam — Beast in human form — before the shows. A tea party will be hosted by Bella’s Traveling Tea Party and include a limited supply of cookies, tea, and kid-friendly lemonade-infused water.
Don’t forget sun protection like a hat and sunblock. Well-behaved dogs on a leash are welcomed and bringing a cooler with chilled beverages and snacks is permitted. Or, you can purchase items to eat and drink at Jolly Beans Café, which is located in the park.
Mark your calendar for the following Opera in the Park event on Saturday, June 16, featuring a showing of “Opera in the Movies.”
