If you’ve been looking for recreational sports to get involved with in Henderson, we have just the local organization for you. The Durango Soccer League is a new recreational soccer league for boys and girls ages 3 to 10 in Southern Las Vegas that will soon be coming to Capriola Park in Inspirada this fall.
We spoke with Durango Soccer League president Oscar Cisneros about the volunteer, parent-run organization and what they have in store this fall. Oscar Cisneros built the league just a few months ago with the support of several people including: Etienne Barbara (Recreation League Director),Tiffany Bailey (Competitive League Director), and Melisa Kalilimoku, Lesly de la Hoya and Noe Carranza (Durango Soccer league PR) just to mention a few, all who share the same ideas and visions for DSL, dedicating much time and effort to make this dream a reality.
The league’s whole mission is to build professional soccer players by helping children develop motor skills, increase their confidence, and learn to love the game. Creating a positive environment that fosters teamwork is their main focus. While competition is a natural part of the sport, it’s more about learning the game and making new friends.
Oscar says his motivation for starting the Durango Soccer League was his 5 year old son, Bruno, who already loves the game. (See him performing ball control drills and scissor moves with great foot-eye coordination on the Durango Soccer League blog. Go Bruno!)
The league is entirely parent-run and they’re always looking for more volunteers and coaches. Even if you don’t have experience coaching, they have a training program and will provide you with everything you need to succeed, including a curriculum.
Oscar says the league is more like a family than anything. They hope to spread the word at Inspirada, which has plenty of parks and areas to practice and hone your child’s growing athletic skill set. Aventura Park has three soccer/multi-use fields and Capriola Park has two more.
Over the summer the Durango Soccer League is hosting free clinics for boys and girls ages 3 to 10 every Thursday at Madeira Canyon Park from 7 to 8:30 pm. The fall season will start in September and total 8 to 10 games plus the playoffs. A full calendar is still being worked out and games will be held Saturdays at Capriola Park right here at Inspirada.
Registration is now open until the last week of August, and the fall season starts September 26. An entire season, including uniforms and accident insurance, is $85 with early registration, and friends in the same age group can request to play on the same team. After July 24th, registration for the fall season will go up to the normal price of $100.
If you have a youngster interested in soccer or could use an athletic outlet, don’t miss out on this opportunity to join in on a great community and meet new people. Find out more at www.durangosoccerleaguelv.com and their Facebook page, www.facebook.com/DurangoSoccerLeague.
