Pack your books, comb your hair, and sharpen your pencils because school starts August 24! The highly anticipated Pinecrest Academy Inspirada is opening its doors to students, and we could not be more excited.
Pinecrest Academy of Nevada is a STEAM, tuition-free public charter school located inside the Inspirada community, just south east of Aventura Park. Principal Yolanda Hamilton and her staff will welcome 700 students from kindergarten to the seventh grade this first year, with an eighth grade being added next year.
Home of the Pioneers, Pinecrest Academy was built to meet the needs of Henderson’s growing population and to give parents an option beyond the Clark County School District’s public schools.
According to the Review Journal, although charter schools are public, they operate separately from the Clark County School District Board of Education. They receive funds from the school district and state according to the number of students attending. However, Ryan Reeves from Academica Nevada says the biggest obstacle faced by most charter schools throughout the country is finding a facility, as state funding does not cover these costs.
The Turner-Agassi Charter School Development Fund, founded by Andre Agassi and Bobby Turner, is a Pinecrest partner, and their funding allows Pinecrest to have manageable lease rates. Reeves says they have been an essential partner in the successful establishment and growth of charter schools throughout Las Vegas, including Pinecrest Academy. The site for the Inspirada campus was donated by Inspirada Builders LLC. The master planned community also funded and built all utilities and improvements to the school site.
There are plans to have a Back to School Night on September 15, so follow Pinecrest Academy on Facebook and check their website for more information.
Pinecrest parents, enjoy these last moments of summer and be sure to take advantage of all four of the Henderson Parks at Inspirada after school!
