9 Day Trips From Las Vegas: From Antelope Canyon to the Hoover Dam

Hoover Dam 

Distance: 40 minutes

Located along the Colorado River, the Hoover Dam sits on the border of Arizona and Nevada. Visitors can take a 1-hour tour of the dam and nearby power plant. Tours are offered daily from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and tickets can be purchased in-person at the dam. The Boulder City Hoover Dam Museum is just a 15-minute drive from the historical landmark and offers visitors a peek into what it was like to build this landmark.

Mount Charleston 

Distance: 45 minutes 

Mount Charleston is located in the Spring Mountains and offers several opportunities for hiking, camping, mountain biking, and more. Daily educational opportunities are organized by the staff – there are even volunteer opportunities for people who want to help preserve its fragile ecosystem. In the winter, Mount Charleston receives several inches of snow that is perfect for sledding and snowball fights. Skiiers and snowboarders will find plenty of action at the nearby Lee Canyon Ski & Snowboard Resort.

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area 

Distance: 20 minutes

Red Rock Canyon sits just 17 miles south of downtown Las Vegas and offers a wide variety of outdoor activities from hiking and biking to rock climbing and more. A 13-mile scenic drive through the center of the 196,000-acre park allows visitors to see plenty of desert plant and animal life. There are plenty of parking spots and picnic areas along the way that lead to trailheads and scenic overlooks. If you’re looking to spend the night under the stars, Red Rock Canyon Campground is open from September through May each year. 

Laughlin

Distance: 1 hour, 30 minutes 

Laughlin is the perfect getaway for those looking for a quick escape from the hustle and bustle of Las Vegas. Located just 2 hours from the Grand Canyon, Laughlin is a hub for all types of outdoor activities. Hike the Colorado River Heritage Greenway Trail or take a dip in Lake Mohave. The city even has an array of resorts, restaurants, and shopping for visitors who just want to relax. Must-try restaurants include Pints Brewery & Sports BarSaltgrass, and Bumbleberry Flats.

Pahrump

Distance: 1 hour, 10 minutes

If you consider yourself an adventure seeker, Pahrump may be the perfect spot for you. There is ample space for off-road riding, rock climbing, and biking just outside the city. At Lake Spring Mountain, visitors can take part in all sorts of watersports like paddleboarding and water jetpacking. The city also holds several events throughout the year, like the Pahrump Fall Festival and the Pahrump Balloon Festival.

Dixie National Forest

Distance 3 hours, 15 minutes

Dixie National Forest is located near Cedar City, Utah, and spans more than 2 million acres from the Colorado River to the Great Basin. Visitors will find ample photography opportunities throughout the hundreds of miles of forest roads. While most activities in Dixie National Forest are unregulated, permits are required for mushroom picking, woodcutting, professional filming/videography, and large group events.

Willow Beach

Distance: 1 hour

Willow Beach is located in the Black Canyon region of the Colorado River and provides easy access to Lake Mead. The recreational area also boasts a restaurant, gift shop, and small convenience store. There are several tent camping sites for overnight visitors, as well as slots for recreational vehicles. Head north on I-93 to Black Canyon River Adventures, and you’ll have the opportunity to white water raft on the Colorado River as part of a guided tour.

St. George, Utah

Distance: 1 hour, 45 minutes

Located in southern Utah, St. George contains a variety of opportunities for fun, recreation, and relaxation. The city has a wide range of restaurants, shops, museums, and other attractions. Visitors can find a canyon landscape outside the city that is perfect for horseback riding, hiking, ATV rides, and more. Additionally, there are local tour providers that offer skydiving and hot air balloon rides.

Antelope Canyon

Distance: 4 hours

Antelope Canyon is a picturesque slot canyon just east of Page in northern Arizona. The canyon is known for its wave-like structure and light beams that shine into the opening of the canyon. Visitors can explore this natural wonder, but a guided tour is required — several companies offer tours from Vegas directly. Photographers will particularly enjoy snapping photos; however, the famous light beams are not always visible. They occur most often during the summer, with the best views in late March and early October.
