Each October, residents are encouraged to show off their spookiest skills by decorating their home with witches, ghouls, jolly jack-o-lanterns, and other creative Halloween staples. Whether you and your family prefer the graveyard motif or are more inspired by Tim Burton’s eccentric imagination, the possibilities are endless when it comes to choosing a theme for your Henderson home. Don’t worry if you’re having a hard time deciding! We’ve got a few Halloween decorating ideas to help get you started:
- Place a life-sized skeleton or mummy on your porch.
- Take an old pair of boots and have them emerging out of a big pile of leaves or dirt. This will make it look like there’s a body on your lawn.
- Splatter red paint on your scarecrow to make it look like blood.
- Have a zombie rise from the dead—or your front yard in this case.
Let your imagination run wild—your home could win you some loot! Creative contenders in the past have included a lawn featuring an inflatable skeleton riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle. Others created ghost-ridden abodes in which spooky cobwebs, colored lights, and a variety of inflatable creatures rounded out their festive décor.
Take a break from decorating with a stroll through the community to check out your neighbors’ displays! Many homes often feature music or movement elements that make for a fun and spooky evening outing. We’ll publish a list of these homes so you and your family can experience these haunted displays in person.
The contest submission period ran from October 3-14. Now that all the contenders have been locked in, residents can cast their votes for their favorite houses online from October 17-29. Winners will be announced on October 30 and presented with a special prize—along with bragging rights. You can view photos of previous winners online to help you get in the ghoulish spirit.
